Homework Help – Factors, Primes and Composites

Here is a explanation of what Primes, Factors and Composites are.

Factor – A factor is a whole number that divides another whole number with no remainder

Prime – A prime number is a number with only 2 different factors: 1 and itself.

Composite – A composite number is a number that has 3 or more factors

(Factors are bold)

7 is a Prime number – 7÷7=1  7÷1=7

8 is a composite number – 8÷2=4 8÷4=2 8÷8=1 8÷1=8

Remember, if a number is a odd number it doesn’t mean it’s a prime number. For example 9, it is a composite number.
